The orientation session for new students will take place in the first week of the intake.

The number of students varies depending on the intake.

Through the LUC BHMS course, you will acquire the following key skills:

Clinical Skills: Diagnosis, case taking, homeopathic prescription, and patient management.

Sure.
Each semester of the BHMS program spans 21 weeks, inclusive of a mid-semester examination week, a mid-semester break week, a presentation week, a study break week, and an examination week.
During each semester, students are required to study 5 to 6 subjects, each assigned a specific number of credits.
The total credits per semester range from 17 to 19, culminating in a cumulative total of 138 credits upon completion of the program.
Throughout the entire course, students will engage with a total of 42 subjects, including MPU subjects, computer modules, and management modules.

Yes, the BHMS course at LUC includes research skills development. You will learn:

Research Methodology: Basic principles of conducting scientific research, including study design, data collection, and analysis.

The total credits per semester range from 17 to 19, culminating in a cumulative total of 138 credits upon completion of the program.

The GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credit hours:
GPA =Total Quality Points/Total Credit Hours
Example Calculation:
Let’s say you took four courses with the following grades and credit hours:
Course Grade Grade Point Credit Hours Quality Points
Math            A                4.0 3 4.0 × 3 = 12
English         B+              3.3 3 3.3 × 3 = 9.9
Biology         B                3.0 4 3.0 × 4 = 12
Chemistry   A-                3.7 2 3.7 × 2 = 7.4
Total Quality Points:   12 + 9.9 + 12 + 7.4 = 41.3
Total Credit Hours:       3 + 3 + 4 + 2 = 12
GPA = 41.3/12
         =3.44

The institute may opt for a proportional conversion formula that normalizes percentages from different grading systems to a standard 4.0 scale:
CGPA = (Percentage / 100) * 4.0
For an example:
English = 70
Mathematics = 75
Chemistry = 70
Physics = 74
Arabic language = 82
Health Science = 80
Average = 75%
As per Lincoln’s Grading system: 75 is equivalent to B (3.0)
The CGPA will be 3.0

It consists of:

Homeopathic core subjects:

  1. Homeopathic Materia Medica: In-depth study of various homeopathic remedies and their applications.
  2. Organon of Homeopathic Medicine: Understanding the fundamental principles and laws of homeopathy, such as the Law of Similars, the Vital Force, and the Doctrine of Totality.
  3. 3. Homeopathic Pharmacy: Knowledge of the preparation, dispensing, and handling of homeopathic medicines.
  4. Case Taking and Repertorization: Learning how to collect patient information and select appropriate homeopathic remedies based on their symptoms.

Additional Subjects:

Pre-clinical subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology.

Clinical subjects: Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Practice of Medicine, Psychology, First Aid, and Emergency Conditions.

Yes. Theoretically.
 Surgical procedures are not conducted as part of the BHMS program, however, theoretical knowledge of surgery is essential. Homeopaths must be able to assess a patient’s condition and determine whether it is suitable for homeopathic treatment or if surgical intervention is necessary. This understanding of surgical conditions is crucial for effective homeopathic practice.

Credit transfer is applicable for those who apply for a degree program transfer (course transfer) after mapping the program course structure. Only 30% of subject credit transfer is allowed as per MQA guidelines (https://www.mqa.gov.my/new/faq_credittransfers.cfm#gsc.tab=0)

Practical training/ Internship

While the BHMS curriculum may seem extensive, it is important to remember that homeopathy is a complementary medical field. Understanding the normal and abnormal functions of the human body is essential in this context.

The program is designed to gradually introduce students to the coursework over a four-year duration, which will be extended to five years in the near future. This allows for a more gradual adaptation to the academic demands.

The Department of Homeopathy is staffed by highly experienced and dedicated faculty members who are committed to providing compassionate guidance and support to students. They are available to assist you with any academic or personal challenges you may encounter.

In addition, the program offers weekly mentor-mentee sessions. You will be assigned a faculty mentor who can provide guidance and support related to both academic and personal matters.

As part of the program, you will receive comprehensive training in research methodology. Additionally, a dedicated supervisor will be assigned to guide and mentor you throughout your research endeavors. For your Final Year Project (FYP), you have the option to explore various research methodologies, including conducting literature reviews on homeopathic treatments, observational studies, or surveys.

The MPU subjects offered in this course include Appreciation of Ethics & civilization, Malaysian Government and Public Policy, Human Relations & Leadership Theory, Community Practice and Integrity & Anti-Corruption. It is mandatory to do MPU courses.

No, MPU subjects will only be exempted for those who have completed those subjects during the diploma program.

You will have summative and formative assessments.

Summative assessment will be the final exam at the end of the semester which will contribute to 40% of total score.

In formative assessment, there will be mid-term exam, assignments, PPT presentations, Case-studies etc. which will contribute towards 60% of the total score.

At the end of your practical training, the OSCE and OSPE are conducted. They are standardized assessments. The OSCE evaluates your clinical skills and decision-making, while the OSPE assesses your practical procedures. These exams help ensure your preparedness for homeopathic practice.

Exams will be re-conducted.
Supplementary examinations are available for students who fail the final semester exam. However, a fee applies for retaking the supplementary exam.
While it is uncommon to fail the semester overall, as assessments are not solely based on theoretical exams but also include assignments, presentations, and case studies, supplementary exams remain an option for those who may require them.

Lincoln University College (LUC) offers a range of additional facilities to enhance the learning experience and overall well-being of its students. These facilities may include modern laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, a well-stocked library with a vast collection of books, journals, and electronic resources, computer labs with high-speed internet access, and comfortable student lounges for studying and socializing. Additionally, LUC may student support services like counseling centers, career guidance, and health clinics. These facilities aim to create a conducive and supportive environment for students to excel in their academic pursuits and personal development.

Your academic calendar and time table for the first semester will be send to you atleast 10 days before to your orientation program which happens in the first week of joining the course. Time table for subsequent semesters will be given atleast 10 days before the commencement of that semester.

The graduation requirements are as follows:
i)  Satisfy all credit requirements for the Academic Programme i.e total credits and the required number of credits for each component in the
programme [Core, Elective, University and Optional (if appropriate) courses].
ii)  Obtain a minimum grade point of 2.00 (Grade C) and above for all Core courses.
iii)  Obtain a final CGPA of 2.00 and above for the whole programme.
iv)  Obtain a minimum grade of C or grade point 2.00 for the language courses (Bahasa Malaysia or English), Philosophy and Current Issues, Appreciation of Ethics and Civilisations, Human Relation & Leadership Theory as well as the Community Service course.

The program’s face-to-face mode of teaching involves a mix of lectures, tutorials, practical labs, clinical postings, and interactive learning experiences with healthcare professionals.

Practicum/Industrial Training/Clinical Placement

Is clinical experience included in the program?

LUC is affiliated with the Maxura Homeopathic Health Centre. Beginning in the second year of the BHMS program, students are required to complete at least one day of practical training per week at this facility.
Additionally, the Psychology module offers students the opportunity to participate in clinical training at a dedicated psychology clinic

Yes. Also it is mandatory to complete this internship irrespective of your previous degrees.
Internship completion is important as you need to do registration before you start practicing homeopathy.

The current internship component of the BHMS program spans one semester, equivalent to 28 weeks. Upon the anticipated extension of the program to five years, the internship duration will be increased to two semesters.

Currently we have MOA with 2 institutions in India and 2 in Malaysia. One of the institution in India is a premier Homeopathic Medical College attached with a hospital.

While LUC has agreements with four homeopathic institutions for internship placements, both in India and Malaysia, students have the flexibility to choose their preferred location. However, LUC strongly recommends that students complete at least a portion of their internship at the Homeopathic Medical College affiliated with a hospital in India. This is because the other institutions involved in LUC’s agreements primarily offer Out-Patient Department (OPD) facilities, whereas the Indian institution provides In-Patient Department (IPD) facilities. Following up on cases is a crucial aspect of homeopathic practice, and gaining experience in an IPD setting can significantly enhance your practical knowledge, skills, and overall confidence.

On-campus accommodation is provided within the hospital itself, consisting of double-bedded air-conditioned rooms. To reduce costs, students may choose to share these rooms. The hospital cafeteria offers a variety of halal and vegetarian food options. Additionally, numerous local restaurants specializing in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian halal cuisine can be found in the vicinity of the campus.

At India, yes.

Licensure/ Registration

Can I practice directly after the BHMS course?

No. You need to get registered under the medical council applicable to the country you are planning to practice.

In Malaysia, after your graduation, you need to register under BPTK or Traditional And Complementary Medicine Division (MOH/KKM).

Graduates must:
 ● Have completed a recognized BHMS program.
 ● Provide necessary documentation such as educational certificates, identity proofs, and relevant professional qualifications.
 ● Be proficient in English or Malay, depending on the requirements of T&CM.
 ● Meet any additional local requirements for foreign nationals seeking to register.

The T&CM Division may impose time limits or specific conditions for registration after completing the program. Graduates should check the registration requirements as soon as possible to avoid any delays.

Career Perspective

What are all the career opportunities I can get after finishing this course?

Mostly it depends on the country where you intend to practice.
 In Malaysia, you can

Practice homeopathy or integrate it with conventional medicine (if you are a MBBS graduate too).

  • Open your own homeopathy clinic.
  • Work in hospitals, wellness centers, or alternative medicine institutions.
  • Pursue research or academic roles in the field of homeopathy.
  • Additionally, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) give scholarships for 20 Malaysian students every year to do AYUSH related Masters courses in India. You can check the following link for details.

International students can potentially practice homeopathy in Malaysia after completing their studies, but they must first obtain the appropriate licensure or registration with the T&CM Division. Additionally, work permits or employment visas specific to healthcare professionals may be required.
 Please check the following link.
 https://hq.moh.gov.my/tcm/en/index.php/guidelines-foreignpractitioners

Complete the BHMS program from a recognized institution.
● Apply for registration with the T&CM Division.
● Obtain a work permit or employment visa if planning to work under an employer.
● For those starting their own practice, ensure compliance with Malaysian business laws and healthcare regulations.
● Obtain any additional certification or language proficiency that may be required for practice.

International graduates may require a sponsorship letter to practice in Malaysia, depending on immigration regulations and work permit requirements. A sponsorship letter is typically provided by an employer or recognized healthcare institution, stating their intention to employ the individual as a homeopath.

Without a sponsorship letter, it may be challenging for an international graduate to obtain the necessary work visa or professional registration to practice in Malaysia. However, they may explore other options such as applying for jobs in homeopathic clinics or collaborating with a licensed Malaysian homeopath. It is advisable to consult with both immigration authorities and the T&CM Division for guidance.

It may be possible for international graduates to open their own homeopathy practice in Malaysia, but they must meet the legal and business requirements for foreign nationals to set up a business, including professional registration, work permits, and business licensing.

This depends on the regulations in the country where they intend to practice. Some countries may recognize the BHMS degree from Malaysia, while others may require additional qualifications or licensure exams. Graduates should research the regulations of the specific country they plan to work in.
